4. Seasonal Sensibility
In this seasonally-curated series of perfume-making workshops, we will get down and dirty with one specific fragrance type such as Woods, spices or florals. Each of these types is steeped in rich traditions and wonderful natural materials. Cracher dans la soupe invites you to come get nosey.

The human nose is said to be able to discern over a trillion distinct odours. How do perfumers make sense of all these scents?
One way is to separate this flurry of airborne activity into a smaller number of more functional categories. the fragrant materials we work with each fit within one (or two) of these categories, which are sometimes referred to as “Fragrance types” or “fragrance families”.
In this seasonal workshop we will focus on one fragrance type in all its glory. through a series of exercises we will shed light on some of the highest quality natural materials, methods and tools used by perfumers. we will gain an introduction to blending these materials together through proximity, harmony and opposition to create our own botanical perfume to take home. In the process, We will utilize the language of perfume to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for this specific fragrance family and its materials.
No prior perfume knowledge is required for this workshop, however taking Odorata is highly recommended. This is a perfume-making workshop - you will create your own 10ml eau de parfum to take home.
Safety notes: Please be advised that we will be working with natural oils, absolutes and extracts from plants, some of which are known allergens. If you have allergies to specific essential oils or plants but would like to participate in this workshop nonetheless, please let me know ahead of time and I will try my best to accommodate with alternative oils.

3. Little Noses : perfumery for kids!
in person: 3 hours.
Ages: 9-12
group size : 4-10 participants
In this hands on workshop for 9 to 12 year-olds we will learn how to make our own one-of-a-kind perfume to take home using professional materials and tools. through a series of sniffing, writing and perfume blending exercises we will explore the fragrant world around us and how scent connects to memory.
we will do a little “perfumer’s math”, to learn the basics of perfume formulation, and figure out how much of a good thing is too much, (or maybe it isn’t at all!) We will also develop our noses by smelling a variety of perfume ingredients from the most delicious and beautiful to the weirdest and most wonderful!
No prior perfume knowledge is required for this workshop. This is a perfume-making workshop only for kids.
Safety notes: Please be advised that we will be working with professional perfumery ingredients diluted in sweet almond or coconut oil. some of these oils/absolutes/resins are known allergens. If you have specific allergies to essential oils, nuts, plants or trees that you can identify, and would like to participate in this workshop nonetheless, please let me know ahead of time and I will try my best to accommodate with alternative materials.

2. Odorata
An introduction to natural perfumery
In person: 1 day - 4 hours

In this hands-on workshop we will smell our way through the intoxicating world of natural perfumery. through a series of exercises we will shed light on some of the highest quality natural materials, methods and tools used by perfumers. we will gain an introduction to blending these materials together through proximity, harmony and opposition to create our own botanical perfume to take home. In the process, We will delve into the language of perfume that includes fragrance typologies, families and notes.
No prior perfume knowledge is required for this workshop. This is a perfume-making workshop - you will have your own full 10ml eau de parfum by the end.

1. Signature scent
have you ever said, “I don’t really know anything about perfume…BUt I know what I like!” Do you ever feel overwhelmed at the perfume counter by the barrage of scents or sheer number of perfumes to choose from? just what is a fougere? is a note the same thing as an ingredient? Signature Scent is the workshop that gives voice to our unspoken passions for fragrance.

In this discussion-oriented workshop we will smell the very best contemporary perfume from around the worlD together. From haute couture houses to the hottest niche lines, we will acquaint ourselves with the fragrances and the language of contemporary perfume. Over three odoriferous hours We will compare and contrast perfumes to introduce styles, types, houses, designers, concentrations and notes.
This is not a formulating workshop, but rather a knowledge and language-building discussion: a refinement of the nose. This sniffing extravaganza will be accompanied by aromatic tea, wine or cocktail of participants choice. No prior perfume knowledge is required.
safety note: We will be sniffing many world-renowned perfumes, most of which are vetted in production for known allergens, however, be advised that sensitivities to fragrant products can still occur. If you have allergies or sensitivities this may not be the workshop for you. if you still want to participate and know precisely what makes you react, please let me know ahead of time and i will try my best to accommodate with alternative perfumes where possible.
